The brightest stars of the small screen were out and shining on TV's biggest night at the 59th annual Emmy Awards.
For the first time stars in the audience watched the Emmys in the round as the casts of each show were seated together, surrounding the circular stage.
Host Ryan Seacrest had some fun frolicking with the cast of Desperate Housewives during the opening act, and shared an exchange with one time rumored flame Teri Hatcher.
One of the night's musical highlights came when Christina Aguilera performed in a draped magenta dress. Earlier she walked the red carpet in a clingy pink and black gown that showed off what seems to be a growing baby bump.
Sally Field was one of the night's big winners, snagging the best actress award for her role in "Brothers and Sisters." But producers cut away from the three-time Emmy winner during her acceptance speech, speaking out against war.
"Grey's Anatomy's" Katherine Heigel, who won an Emmy for best supporting actress, was also bleeped during the broadcast, as was presenter Ray Romano.
Presenters Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert earned the biggest laugh of the night when they gave "Office" star Steve Carrell an Emmy he didn't win.
And in a moving tribute, the cast of Roots was honored 30 years after the groundbreaking mini-series was first broadcast.
The night's top honor, the Emmy for best drama series went to "The Sopranos." They received a standing ovation as they took a final bow.
