Christina Aguilera is glowing more than usual these days. And it’s not just because she's a first-time mommy.
The pop princess is the muse behind British celebrity jeweler Stephen Webster's new silver women's collection, as well as the star of the line's Hitchcock-inspired ad campaign.
But the project almost hit a bump when she got pregnant.
Xtina's hubby, Jordan Bratman, called Webster when they found out they were expecting. "He phoned me when she was one month pregnant and said, ‘We may not be able to shoot this in October,’” Webster told me this morning from his home in London. “ We scrambled! I think we were pretty much in about the last week or two before it wasn’t only, like, only the bump showing."
Webster and Aguilera first met when he designed pieces for her during the making of the “Lady Marmalade” music video from the 2001 musical movie Moulin Rouge. Since then, Webster said, Aguilera has been his biggest supporter. He designed her engagement ring and wedding bands and, most recently, a microphone stand (yes, a microphone stand!) for her Back to Basics world tour.
“Then she asked me to make a miniature microphone in gold and diamonds to wear as a pendant,” Webster said. “It’s very retro—that iconic kind of microphone you would have in the ‘40s or ‘50s.”
The collaboration for the new line began casually as a chat over drinks more than two years ago. The 80 or so pieces were inspired by the singer’s life and cost between $350 and $3,500.
With the new addition to the Aguilera-Bratman household, are they brainstorming a children’s collection? “Yeah, exploit the kid!” he joked, before quickly adding, “I haven’t made that a part of the plan—yet.”
