We don't know about you, but we're looking forward to seeing Christina Aguilera's next transformation -- to mom -- almost as much as seeing son Max Liron Bratman's face for the first time.
We loved her maternity style. She kept it edgy with graphic tees and leggings, and (once the cat was out of the bag) we loved how she showed off her bump with tight, fitted clothing. We are pretty sure her petite frame will rebound nicely and that we'll see some great mommy fashion from this trendsetter. But, we have to admit, and we heard you all saying it time and again in the comments, that she was wearing too much makeup. Many new moms can attest to the fact that finding time to shower is often hard enough, let alone time to apply a full face of makeup. So we think that mommy-hood will tone down Christina's makeup.
Many women cake on makeup during pregnancy to hide acne flare ups and/or chloasma/melasma (dark blotches or patches on your face). The problem with caking on makeup to cover one of these problems is it actually just draws attention to the problem. These skin problems usually fade away after baby arrives, and your hormone levels return to normal -- That's when the beauty arsenal changes.
Click continue reading below to see what we recommend for Christina's new "look."
Playdate Pretty
For most women, having a child changes their look. Dark eyeliner and deep red lips get replaced by a look that's a bit more simple. Christina's best bet for a more natural look is switching from a cakey powder to a light and airy, loose powder, like Bare Escentuals i.d. bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation ($25) or their Mineral Veil ($19). It's also important to consider how often you're washing your face. Not all skin types need to be washed every day, but if you're wearing powders and/or foundations you really should give your skin a breather by removing them as often as possible.
Christina also had a tendency to be a bit heavy-handed with the bronzer/blush. The goal is to look flushed or rosy, but it's easy to end up looking orange and/or overdone. Cargo's BeachBlush ($26) is a bronzer with four complementary shades that blend perfectly to achieve a subtle and natural glow. We also like Mommy Makeup's Mineral Shimmer Powder ($36).
If Christina can tone down her skin and cheeks then what she applies on her eyes and lips won't be as glaring. A smoky eye has its place and so do glam red lips, and if we know Christina, we know they'll continue to be part of her signature look as she totes around little Max.
Date-Night Diva
This is a look Christina knows a lot about. This is where the smoky eye look and deep lip color will come in handy. And we're happy to report that MAC Cosmetics has a way that she can take her Playdate Pretty look into the evening with their new N Collection. Included in the new line are bare and sheer lipsticks, lipglasses and eye shadows that she can play up and down as needed.
Pop Beauty also has a new line, called their Lid Bronzer Collection. The Glitter Stix ($8) will add a nice sheen to her eyes. And the Conceal and Correct Pressed Mineral Powder Cake ($25) is what we consider the perfect powder, it evens out skin tone nicely and will even add a bit of shimmer. The ultimate eye shadow palette comes from Sephora (go figure!), it's called the Colorful Story Palette and contains 16 shades in four finishes: matte, chrome, strass, and pearl -- It's everything a girl needs for ANY look.
Our favorite pick for her lips is Smashbox's Photo Finish Lipstick With Sila-Silk Technology ($22). This lipstick goes on smooth, adds a soft layer of moisture and comes in a myriad of colors designed to complete any look.
Danielle is a big fan of Mommy Makeup for both day and evening looks. It's a makeup line that streamlines the makeup process so that you can achieve a "Clean-n-Casual" or "Pretty-n-Polished" look with minimal time and expense. Each kit contains 5 or 6 products that do your entire face- from concealer to lipgloss- in approximately 7 minutes.
