Lady GaGa has insisted that she had always wanted to make pop music despite her classical background. The singer, who is currently in the UK on her Monster Ball tour, admitted that she grew up in an area where pop music was deemed "unimportant". When asked in an interview with Show Studio on why she decided to start making pop music, she said: "I started when I was really young. I was playing classical music when I was 4 and when I turned 11 I started to write pop music. I guess you could say it was my intellectual evolution and my love of music began to change. "I resigned myself to make the kind of music that I wanted to listen to. Not what I thought anyone wanted to hear, or what would perhaps be the most credible or notable. I just created what I wanted to listen to." She continued: " in an area where indie music was much more popular and pop music was considered to be annoying, or corporate or unimportant. So I decided in true GaGa fashion to be revolutionary and go against the grain and make pop music in a town where there was none."
On whether she finds it difficult to deal with negative criticism of her in press, she admitted: "It can always be personal because my work is personal, but you have to so truthfully believe in yourself and what you're doing. You have to almost refuse criticism and negativity like a bad heart."
