In a bashing the New York Post deems a joke, Jerry Seinfeld called out Lady Gaga for her recent appearances at New York Yankees and Mets games -- she flipped dual middle fingers unrepentantly at one game, and showed up in skimpy lingerie for both.
"This woman is a jerk. I hate her," Seinfeld said on WFAN radio Monday night, although he conceded she is talented. "I don't know why she's doing this stuff. I don't know what these young people think or how they promote their careers. I'm not one of these all-publicity-is-good people. People talk about you need exposure -- you could die of exposure."
Seinfeld told WFAN host Steve Somers he's had enough of Lady Gaga, but that he wishes her the best -- though he was quick to tack on, "You take one 'A' off of that and you've got 'gag.'"
"You give people the finger and you get upgraded? Is that the world we're living in now?"
The comedian was referring, of course, to the Mets incident: Gaga, wearing only a jacket and a studded leather bikini, appeared at Citi Field in the middle of the game, claimed her terrific seats and exploded when photographers paid too much attention to her. She subsequently upgraded to box seats -- box seats owned by longtime Mets fan Jerry Seinfeld -- where she proffered profane gestures for the paparazzi (pictured at left).
"Why is she giving the finger? How old is the finger? How'd it even get to be the finger?" Seinfeld riffed. While we haven't heard the audio interview, that bit reads like the NBC star's signature style ... so maybe it was all a joke? But "I hate her" and "she's a jerk" ring pretty harsh no matter how you slice 'em.
